Goals of the 2nd-3rd Grade MAP
To create a safe environment in which children can grow, explore, and share comfortably.
To help children develop positive peer relationships, foster problem solving skills, and critical thinking.
To have fun while learning in a relaxed enriching environment
2:50 School dismissal and arrival to MAP (Parents please remember to call 508-359-8513 if your child is not coming to MAP no later than 2:00).
3:00 After attendance we take all the children outside, or to the main room for homework.
3:30 The children are broken into two groups. Each group snack simultaneously in two different locations.
4:00 After snack the children will participate in Group Learning. Group Learning is a theme based time spent together as a MAP community and learning in a fun way. During Group Learning teachers lead lessons based on our year long theme. Lessons could involved discussions, reading stories, playing cooperative games, or possibly dressing up to reenact events.
Clubs begin- A club is an extended project or activity that usually runs for approximately 8 weeks. Children sign up for the clubs in advance and will stick with a club for its duration. If a child participates in a club he or she will miss Group Learning for the day.
4:45 Group Learning ends and is followed up by "choices". At this time a project that corresponds with the theme of the day is offered. Project is a choice. Outside/Gym or free play in the room is offered at this time too.
5:45 Everyone is back in the modular MAP building. This is our "quiet time" when all major activities come to a close. Teachers offer a "red table game" such as apples to apples, outburst, jenga, etc. The pool table and book area will remain open as well.
6:00 All children should be picked up.
